BITCOIN: CHRONOLOGY
2007 - Satoshi Nakamoto begins writing the Bitcoin code.
August 2008 - bitcoin.org is registered through Namecheap, and a website is created at that address.
October 2008 - The Bitcoin whitepaper is published in the mailing list metzdowd.com.
2009 - Release of version 0.1 of the Bitcoin software: defines the genesis block of Bitcoin or block number 0 with 50 BTC and the prescient phrase: “The Times 03/Jan/2009 Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks”
Between January and July 2009 - Satoshi mines 1M BTC.
Until mid-2010, Satoshi continues to collaborate on the Bitcoin software, making all modifications to the source code.
June 2010 - Gavin Andresen buys 10K Bitcoins for 50 USD and creates Bitcoin Faucet, a source of free Bitcoins. He gives away 5 BTC/day.
August 15, 2010 - A bug results in 184 billion BTC being minted. Following this incident, developers Gavin Andresen and Satoshi Nakamoto had to roll back the blockchain to remove this transaction from block 74638.
December 5, 2010 - Satoshi pleads for Bitcoin not to get involved with WikiLeaks.
December 12, 2010 - Satoshi posts his last message on the mailing list, names Gavin Andresen as his successor, and leaves the project.
